The new Chonburi plant expands Homa’s international manufacturing network and brings smart manufacturing, industrial intelligence and corporate culture together across borders
CHONBURI, THAILAND | 15 SEPTEMBER 2026
Homa has commenced production at its first manufacturing base outside China, marking a significant step in the international development of its cooling business. The official inauguration at the AMATA City Chonburi 2 industrial estate brought together Homa Chairman Cai Shier, Homa President Michael Yao, AMATA Corporation Chief Executive Officer Vikrom Kromadit and representatives from Thailand’s public and private sectors. The plant extends Homa’s production network while creating a new platform for local capability, technology transfer and long-term industrial cooperation.
The project represents a planned investment of RMB 680 million and covers nearly 200,000 square metres. Its first phase is designed for annual production of 1.5 million refrigerators. More than 270 technical experts from Homa’s China headquarters have supported the start-up, working alongside over 800 colleagues already recruited locally. Across the complete project, the plant is expected to create more than 3,300 jobs in Thailand.
The new facility is part of a manufacturing system built to operate at global scale that now comprises nine refrigerator plants and two freezer plants across China and Thailand. Homa’s global annual production capacity is expected to reach 21 million units, supporting partners in more than 150 countries and regions.
Smart manufacturing and artificial intelligence have a central role in this expansion. Connected production systems and industrial intelligence support data-led quality control and preventive maintenance, while AI-enabled risk detection strengthens consistency, safety and decision-making across the wider network. This approach reflects Homa’s wider commitment to safety by design. Technology is applied as an operational capability: its value lies in helping people produce more reliably, learn faster and respond more effectively.
The Thailand plant also opens an important new chapter for Homa’s corporate culture. As the company’s first factory overseas, it allows established manufacturing knowledge to be shared with colleagues from another country and, at the same time, enriched by new perspectives, experience and local understanding. Internationalisation therefore becomes not only an expansion of capacity, but also a way to make the organisation’s culture broader, stronger and more inclusive. The same practical logic connects the plant with Homa’s sustainability journey, in which responsibility is translated into everyday industrial choices.
Speaking at the production launch, Homa CEO Michael Yao described the evolution as a move from ‘Made in China’ to ‘Made with Homa’. The expression reflects the role of the modern manufacturer as a technology enabler and a promise built on efficiency, quality, cooling expertise, intelligent production and long-term partnership. It also expresses a wider principle: technology creates value when it carries a clear and useful meaning, wherever production takes place.
