Making the invisible visible — care, food preservation and design shaping the future of manufacturing

More than thirteen million refrigerators every year, with installed capacity soon set to reach 20 million — numbers that speak of scale and industrial power. Yet they don’t tell the whole story.
Because behind Homa’s strength lies a deliberate choice: not simply to make appliances, but to care for every detail. That decision has moved Homa beyond being the world’s largest OEM in domestic cooling to becoming a development partner — supporting brands and retailers with tools that go far beyond manufacturing.

This transformation is anchored in three clear pillars:

  • Care — meticulous attention to every touchpoint.
  • Food Preservation — technology that protects the freshness and integrity of what matters most: food.
  • Design — not just aesthetics, but a strategic language that gives products identity and desire.

This approach shapes not only an industrial model but also a cultural mindset that is far from ordinary: the intelligent factory you are about to discover.
Here, AI, automation and autonomous logistics create a continuous, precise, and safe production flow. It’s not only efficiency — it’s the visible proof that innovation can coexist with craft-level care and become a competitive advantage for every brand that chooses Homa.

IN THE MAKING OF THE ART OF MAKING is more than a story of machines; it is the story of how manufacturing can evolve — scalable, precise, yet deeply human in its ambition to create value.

IN THE MAKING OF THE ART OF MAKING

How design thinking and automation converge to deliver scalable, precision-led manufacturing at Homa's newest

Innovation is no longer a bonus in industrial manufacturing. It is a baseline requirement for global competitiveness.

At its factory in southern China, Homa is redefining efficiency through a fully automated production ecosystem, where advanced robotics and industrial design work together to deliver precision, scalability and continuous optimisation. Homa is writing a new chapter in the industrial history of refrigeration, powered by intelligent robotics, predictive algorithms and new efficiency processes.

The shift is both structural and cultural. Human labour plays a supervisory role, while manual operations are increasingly performed by high-performance autonomous machines.
Take, for example, the Carrying Robot. This advanced automated system handles the movement of side panels into the pre-assembly zone, where they are joined to the cabinet. The outcome is a seamless, multidirectional flow that eliminates the risk of damage and maintains an uninterrupted line.

The sorting and delivery of the correct cabinet at the right time is also fully automated. Auto Cabinet Sorting, a digital line controlled by the MES system, ensures near-zero error and maximum traceability. At the same time, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) mark a turning point in internal logistics. Driverless, sensor-guided and entirely autonomous for over eight hours, they carry materials from warehouse to production line efficiently and without human intervention.

A bold production model, where Al, automation and smart logistics form a highly accurate and sustainable industrial ecosystem.

This intelligent choreography reaches all the way to quality control. The Dynamic Cooling Performance Inspection line is fully computerised and able to verify the functionality of each refrigerators cooling system in just 45 minutes.

Anomalies are identified in real time, combining speed and reliability at a level not seen before in large-scale appliance testing.

The adoption of these technologies is a true manifesto for the future of manufacturing design.

Far from eliminating the role of people, this model enhances it. With lower training demands and reduced physical strain, Homa's smart production lines allow for high output with low risk, helping clients across the private label and OEM sectors meet increasingly tight market windows and quality standards.

If design is the visible shape of innovation, this is what it looks like on the factory floor.

Homa Design Magazine is a vibrant editorial venture on a mission to ignite the flame of design thinking across the entire Homa community—encompassing Homa people, our partners, and beyond! Yet, its influence extends beyond these boundaries; it serves as a beacon of design culture poised to illuminate our entire industry.
Today, it stands as a remarkable testament to the potency of tangential marketing, presenting a novel approach to captivating audiences. The magazine is the result of a collaborative effort, with the original idea stemming from Homa Europe.
