The title was conferred upon him during the eighth Italian Design Day at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.
The Italian ambassador to Vietnam made a compelling choice in selecting the Italian designer Marco della Seta. The University recognised Umberto Palermo as "a professional who makes innovation and sustainability his guiding principles," a testament to his unwavering commitment to these crucial aspects of design.
In his address at the University of Hanoi, the designer emphasised the importance of designing sustainable products as the primary and ultimate goal where form represents and respects function, thus creating enduring products. The initiative was organised in collaboration with Ariston Group, one of the leading Italian investors in Vietnam. The conference was an opportunity to underline the importance of the values of Italian design projected towards efficient resource utilisation and to recount the experience of the Mole Urbana project, "a product that best embodies the change in urban mobility."
Palermo, who has designed many successful products, among which we'd like to mention both the Mole Urbana and the 777 hypercar by Dallara, is also the creator of the design of Ariston Group products.
Thanks to international collaborations, he has been able to export the culture of Italian industrial design globally. The most important and well-known of these is the one with Homa, the world's fourth-largest refrigerator manufacturer.
